are golf courses bad for the environment?

Lillie Yarde: Only idiots think they are bad for the environment. Not saying you do. But if you do think they are then yes i am calling you an idiot.

Vida Miss: I agree with above

Esmeralda Pigram: Why do you consider open spaces bad for the environment ? The golf course takes 60 to 180 acres of land out of the hands of developers. There are few roads to foul up water sources. There are trees which convert CO2 to oxygen. The present course superintendents are using less chemicals and fertilizers in their maintenance practices. The populace has a place to enjoy nature and get exercise and the old people have a place to socialize and keep in touch with reality....Show more

Ewa Homrich: Modern golf courses are great for the environment in that they are often built on reclaimed or waste landThey provide well used "green " areas and with modern horticultural techniques are less damaging in the use of pesticides and waterOlder established golf course are FA! NTASTIC for the environment in that the are open green areas in an urban setting...They provide habitat for animals and birds What more can you ask for??...Show more

Babette Deloe: They used to be- using up water like it was nobody's business, tearing up land for holes, etc. But they're smarter now- they recycle water or let Mother Earth irrigate for them; they use natural pesticides (insects, birds, etc.) or severely limit their use; going with natural hole designs (like they did in the Golden Age of golf design) instead of forcing land features; many stake off sections for wildlife conservation; they're looking into grasses that are drought-resistant (don't require anywhere near as much water- couple that with the recycled water, and that's a lot less stress on Big Blue). And they're constantly researching better ways of doing things.Everyone and their brother wanted their course to look like Augusta National, but we're finding out that that isn't feasible, and ev! eryone in golf is doing their part to make amends. If you're ! interested, go to GolfDigest.com- they have articles upon articles about this subject- very interesting stuff....Show more
