answers 0:What are some tips for holding a successful garage sale?answers 1:- Better to have garage sale on Saturday, most people have the day off.- Post signs on bright paper the day before so people can see where the garage sale is and plan on it (include the address, date, time, etc.)- Price stuff really really cheap because that is what people expect (clothes: $1 each, books: $0.25-$1.00)- Leave room for customers to negotiate or barter, but not too low (if something was originally $10, if the person wants to go down to $7, let them. But don't let them negotiate half price, that's too much.)- Be polite, smile, say hello when someone stops by and say thank you when someone buys something.- Don't hover over people, let them take their time.- Start out with about $30 in the beginning for ch! ange. A lot of people just have $20 bills (because of the bank) and it's important to have change handy.- Have bags ready and ask customers if they need one to hold their purchases.- Start to pack up stuff in the afternoon, maybe 2-3:00 but if there are people still coming by, tell them that they can still look at the stuff that you haven't packed up yet.- Have FUN!!!...answers 2:1. Make sure your sale is open on at least one weekend day as that is when most people have off of work.2. Have brightly colored signs directing people to your sale.3. Advertise on www.rummage-wi.com, www.craigslist.com and anywhere else online that you can think of.4. Post ads up at places that will allow you to post free adds, like stores or post offices.5. Presentation: Group your wares by category. When I have my sales I have a table for food items, an area for dental products, an area for body wash, an area for hair products, an area for shaving products, then some tables for books and t! ypical rummage stuff in another area.6. Pricing-charge in 25 ! cent increments to make it easier to add up totals of items.7. Make sure you have lots of plastic bags on hand to bag people's purchases, especially if you sell things like I do, new stuff that flies off the tables!8. Sell cold beverages.9. Make sure you start with several smaller bills and coins to make change. 10. Only accept cash as you never know when someone might write you a bad check....
