Vickie Sterbenz: it's part of the ignition system, located in the distributor. The parts should be available from a marine dealer or an auto parts store. There are most likely electronic ignition retrofits for your motor.
Hilde Heskett: Have the seller put the parts in NEVER BUY A BOAT WITH OUT RUNNING IT IN A BODY OF WATER.Test drive it!!!!! If it is an easy fix why does the seller fix it and get more for the boat? BIG RED FLAGS!!
Ulrike Hert: Found this on e-how. The ignition points in an outboard motor transfer a magneto spark through two point contacts. The point contacts open and close according to the camshaft rotation, which opens and closes the valves. The points send voltage to the spark plug wire and onto the spark plug.
