Is Skype a good alternative for a land line phone?

Everette Rovinsky: Skype will charge you for non Skype calls. Last time I used Skype in such a way, you could get a subscription with a telephone number for about $60/year. You will need to use the Skype application on your PC, an app on a compliant smart phone, or a dedicated Skype phone for this to be useful even remotely. There are other and better landline replacement alternatives. Nettalk is your cheapest option. You will plug the ATA (a device you get) into your broadband router, and then a phone into the ATA. Service will be a little more in the first year because you are paying for the ATA, but next year, you would pay less. If you are in the US, and want a home phone replacement, you will want to consider Republic Wireless. There is a very high initial cost for the phone itself, but it is designed to give you unlimited calls in a wifi network. If you leave the network, your device jumps to Sprint Cellular network. If you use too many cellular minutes (depends), y! ou will be warned and eventually terminated from the program. If you're a little technically savvy, consider getting a SIP service. You will have more options if you wish to do a little digging, but it maybe worth it depending on who you are calling, and how long you are on the phone. Something to consider - Skype is proprietary. You will have to use devices that run their software. Also, Skype does not support 112 or N11 dialing. In addition, they don't have much to offer when compared to SIP, and even POTS (conventional landline)Republic Wireless is a new service, but backed by bandwidth.com, and serviced by Sprint. it doesn't suit many people's needs as for cellular, but if you have a landline, and a prepaid cell phone for emergencies, you will find this as a good replacement option. Nettalk is probably the cheapest option. However, you will need to plug it into your home's wired network (whether router, or RJ45 jack). It will also need to be plugged into an electrical ! outlet. SIP will need an ATA, SIP phone, or SIP client on the ! PC, If you have a smart phone, you might be able to get a SIP client for your phone, but you will need to set up SIP settings, and there are a range of services and prices. If most people you call are out of your country, and they are comfortable with SIP, every one should get a +883 number which will make it much easier and cheaper to call. Keep in mind, Nettalk and Skype charges for +883 numbers....Show more

Ulrike Hert: i used skype as my only home phone line for a short period of time, with an adapter so that i could use a regular house phone with it... the call quality was horrible... while magicjack is not the best device, the quality is better and it is actually cheaper than skype... but if you want a real voip provider look for a better provider like vonage, or ooma or one of the many other SIP providers that are available.....Show more

Hermina Ketring: Skype works great but phone calls are not free to my knowledge so be wary of any fees for services use! d.It can be good for phone calls but keep in mind a couple of things. In a Windows Operating System (Win OS) that Skype needs to sometimes be exited completely and restarted and sometimes the PC needs to be restarted to keep it performing optimally.Otherwise, you will experience speed degradation and the calls will be choppy as if you were on a cell phone with a mildly bad signal. Also consider Magic Jack. The USB device where you get a permanent phone number associated with the device, plugs into your computer and then you plug your land-line into the magic jack and use it just like you would any other phone. Note the computer has to be on and you need to compare services and prices between this, Skype or other alternatives. If the other user has Skype there is NO charge as you simply make basically a peer-to-peer call of sorts and no phone is involved. Just your head set and mic....Show more

Joni Ziak: yes cause with skype you can see each other

Marvella Benw! ard: Not for connecting to other regular phones. Get a good SIP based s! ervice to replace a phone line.

Neville Dautremont: Does the television have an OPTICAL output? if so - you're gold. merely run an optical cable from the television to the "DVD" enter on the embody sound device and you gets 5.a million. replace: Does the PS3 have a optical/coaxial-digital output to boot to the HDMI? if so - merely run a short optical cable from the PS3 straight away to the receiver. bridge vs implant or removable tooth?

bridge vs implant or removable tooth?

answers 0:Due to fall my one front tooth is broken. I am 76yr old. My dentist suggests a bridge. He says he won't advise implant. So either Icab have a removable tooth or a bridge. I feel bad to get side teethth drilled. any advice?answers 1:Because it's your front tooth, a bridge is a good option because it can be done so quickly, and is also easier on your wallet than an implant. Implants take longer to put in, cost more, but also last for a long time and an implant feels like any normal tooth. Implants are often suggested to replace missing molars because an implant can take more pressure than a bridge. Maybe you should ask your dentist to explain in detail the pros and cons of each option so you can make the decision. You can also get a second opinion from another dentist to help make a decision. After all, it's your teeth and your dental health!...
