Pei Heatherly: I would look at companies like Babel Theatre Project, they are a four year old company that mount first rate production of new plays they have a knack for finding some really wonderful playwrights. For for classic productions look to The Actors Company Theatre who has a way of making rarely seen plays fresh and relevant. I also liek Boomerang Theatre, Broken Watch Theatre and for great family musicals TADA!...Show more
Aron Ramu: I have an invitation to interview for an acting class at the LABrynth theatre.
Brock Hladik: That's a great project. And having done it (in Florida during the early nineties) I can tell you it's rewarding and exhausting. First off you need to find a group of people to work with you. The requisite skills are: producing, directing, promoting, set design, technical supervision. You need a hard working person in each of those positions. And, to boot, they will each probably end up needing assistants. I ran a children's the! atre with six other folks. Because we worked with children, we found we need a kid herder as well, equipped with a car and infinite patience to deal with prima donna parents. Then you need to find some kind of workable space. This can be expensive; even a cheaply gotten space will require a great deal of work and expense to equip. To this end, you will need to find some funders. Depending on where you are working, this can be the most daunting part of the process. If there is an existing college or community theatre stage in your area you can often link up with them and use their house when they are dark. But ultimately, if you are going to have the real freedom to produce shows, your own space is what you'll want. Depending on the conditions there, you may need to build a stage... though that is not always necessary. Thatre in the round can be very effective. Do yourself a favor and go to productions around where you live. Introduce yourself to the existing local groups. g! et involved with one of their projects, so you can get a taste! for it. I wish you a world of luck....Show more
